Why Las Vegas needs its own calendar
Generic spring-cleaning checklists assume snowy winters and mild summers. In the valley, summer is the hard season: 110°F days push garages far hotter and damage anything heat-sensitive stored there. Winters are short and mild, so the wardrobe swap is light. Monsoon storms in late summer bring wind and dust, and the busy social calendar runs from fall through spring, when relatives and friends visit.
That shifts when to do each job. Garage work is a cool-weather project, and Sorted Spaces runs garage organizing seasonally from mid-October through April for exactly that reason.
Spring reset: April to May, before the heat
Use spring to prepare the house for summer and finish outdoor storage while it is still comfortable.
- Move candles, wine, photos, paint, electronics and makeup out of the garage
- Finish any garage organizing before temperatures climb
- Swap closets to light clothing and store the few heavy coats
- Set up pool towels, sunscreen and swim gear near the back door
- Check the car kit: water, sunshade, phone charger
Summer reset: June to August, indoors only
Summer is the time for indoor projects. Kids are home, so playrooms and bedrooms take a beating; a midsummer playroom reset and a pre-school-year sweep in late July help.
It is also a good season for paperwork, photo projects and closets, since nobody wants to be in the garage. Pick one indoor category per month, such as photos in June, paperwork in July and kids' closets in August, so the list stays manageable. The back-to-school organizing page covers the August restart.

Fall reset: October to November, before hosting
As temperatures drop, the garage opens up again and the hosting season begins. Late October is the moment to do both.
Pull holiday decor down and check what survived the summer, set up guest rooms and casitas, reset the pantry for baking, and clear space in the fridge and coat closet. This is also the window to finally tackle the garage, sorting what heat damaged over summer and setting up zones for the year ahead. The holiday hosting prep guide has a detailed list.
Winter reset: January, the fresh start
January is about putting the holidays away cleanly and editing what came in. Pack decor by room, deal with gift boxes and packaging, donate what new gifts replaced and update files for tax season.
Options for donations in the valley include Goodwill of Southern Nevada, Opportunity Village and Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas ReStore for furniture and home goods. Cool weather also makes it a good time to tackle bigger garage projects before spring.
