Las Vegas goes back to school earlier than many families expect
School in Clark County typically starts in early August, while the valley is still in the hottest stretch of summer. That leaves July as the realistic window for getting the house ready, and it fills quickly.
Booking early in summer also lets us work with kids at home who are cooped up by the heat. Older kids can help choose how their closet and desk are set up, which makes them more likely to keep it that way.
If your family uses a year-round or charter school calendar, the timing shifts, but the idea is the same: book a few weeks before the first day, while there is still breathing room.
Five setups that make school mornings easier
We usually focus on the places where mornings and evenings break down.
Each of these setups is small on its own, but together they remove the daily hunt for a shoe, a permission slip or a clean lunch container. We tailor each one to the age of your kids and the layout of your home, whether that is a mudroom off a three-car garage or a narrow hall closet near the front door.
- Drop zone by the garage or front door: a hook, bin and shoe spot per child
- Kids' closets: current sizes only, school clothes at eye level, outgrown items out
- Homework station: supplies in reach, a spot for finished work, chargers corralled
- Lunch-packing zone: containers, snacks and water bottles grouped in the pantry and fridge
- Paper command center: inbox per child, calendar and a place for forms to sign
Closets first, because shopping comes next
Editing kids' closets before back-to-school shopping saves money and space. Once you can see what still fits, you know exactly what to buy. Outgrown clothes in good shape can go to a younger sibling bin, or to donation options in the valley such as Goodwill of Southern Nevada, Opportunity Village or The Shade Tree.
Las Vegas autumns are mild and winters are short, so most kids need only a small set of cooler-weather pieces. Those can sit on a higher shelf until late fall. Our kids' closet organization page explains how we set up growing wardrobes.

A homework station that kids will actually use
The best homework spot is usually where the kids already end up, often the kitchen island or a nook near it. We set up a caddy or drawer with pencils, calculators, chargers and paper so nothing has to be hunted down at 8 p.m.
For teens, a desk in their room may make more sense, with a system for papers and a charging spot. See our teen bedroom organization page for ideas.
Lunches, snacks and the pantry
Packing lunches goes faster when everything lives in one zone. We set up a pantry bin of lunch snacks at kid height, a drawer for reusable containers and lids, and a shelf in the fridge for lunch items. Kids can help pack their own.
Water bottles matter in Las Vegas heat, even in fall. Give them a dedicated spot so the right bottle goes to school every day. Our guide on organizing a snack drawer for kids has more.

Timing and cost
A back-to-school refresh covering closets and a drop zone often fits in one four-hour session, starting around $600. Families who want the pantry, homework area and several kids' rooms done may book a full day at around $1,200 for eight hours.
Products such as hooks, bins and drawer dividers are added only when needed, and we return anything unused.
