Backstock is where salons and med spas quietly lose money
Retail product that gets buried behind newer shipments ages on the shelf. Color tubes bought twice because nobody could find the first box tie up cash. A treatment room that runs out of a single-use item mid-day means someone leaves a client to dig through the back. A clear backroom fixes all three.
We start by pulling every case and bin out, grouping by brand line and purpose, and showing the owner or manager exactly what is on hand. That count alone often changes the next order.
How we lay out a backroom for a salon or spa
The layout follows the way your team works. A hair salon thinks in color lines, levels and services; a med spa thinks in treatment types and retail skincare; a nail studio thinks in collections and colors. We map shelves to those categories rather than to whatever order the boxes arrived in.
The highest-use professional product sits closest to the door at eye level. Retail backstock is grouped by the same lines you display out front, so restocking the retail wall is quick. Overflow and promotional items go higher. Linens, towels and disposables get their own labeled zone near laundry or the treatment hallway, set up much like a linen closet at home, only with higher counts.
| Zone | Typical contents |
|---|---|
| Professional product | Color, developers, treatment product, back-of-house sizes |
| Retail backstock | Sealed retail sizes grouped by brand and line |
| Treatment supplies | Single-use disposables, applicators, wraps, gloves |
| Linens | Clean towels and robes, with a separate bin for laundry |
| Front desk overflow | Gift bags, tissue, appointment cards, packaging |
Rotation and par levels protect your product
New deliveries go behind existing stock so older product leaves first. We set that up physically with bins deep enough to load from the back and labels that say which line belongs where. If products carry batch or expiration dates, we arrange them so the soonest dates face forward.
Each label carries a par level agreed with the owner or inventory lead. When a bin drops to that line, it goes on the order list. Stylists and providers don't need to remember anything; the shelf tells them. For the station side of the same problem, see our guide on how to organize a salon backbar.

Heat matters more here than anywhere else in your business
Many professional and skincare products include storage guidance on the packaging, and summer in the valley tests it. Backrooms against an exterior wall, a storage closet beside a rear door or a shipment left in a warm hallway can all run hotter than the treatment rooms. We help you move product to the coolest stable shelf available and follow each manufacturer's guidance for anything temperature-sensitive.
For med spas, anything that is a medication, injectable or prescription product stays entirely with your clinical staff and your own policies. We organize retail, general supplies and the non-clinical backroom only.
We work around appointments, not through them
Salons and spas book tightly, especially before holidays and the busy convention and event weekends that fill Las Vegas calendars. We usually schedule on a slower weekday or a day you are closed, or split the backroom into sections so the shelves stylists need stay open while we finish the rest.
Products we bring are sourced to fit your shelving, and anything unused is returned. If you'd like the backroom to match a brand look, we can choose bins in a finish that suits it. Treatment room cabinets can be included in the same visit.
