Keep only the current size in reach
A dresser full of every size makes dressing a baby harder. Keep only what fits now in the dresser or closet, and store everything else.
Within the current size, sort by type: bodysuits, sleepers, pants, tops, socks and accessories. Use drawer dividers so each type has a spot.
Use dividers and labels for each size
Closet rod dividers labeled by size, like newborn, 0-3 months and 3-6 months, help when you hang clothes. In drawers, use dividers for types and keep the size consistent.
When the baby moves up a size, swap the whole set at once. A quick label change makes it clear. Size labels vary by brand, so check fit rather than trusting the tag, and store pieces by the size they actually fit your baby.
| Size range | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Current | Dresser and closet |
| Next size up | Labeled bin in closet, easy to reach |
| Future sizes | Labeled bins on high shelf |
| Outgrown | Bin to save, pass on or donate |
Step by step
- Sort by size
Pull out every piece and group by size range.
- Fill the dresser
Put only the current size in drawers with dividers.
- Bin the rest
Store upcoming sizes in labeled bins in the closet.
- Add an outgrown bin
Drop items as they stop fitting.
- Check monthly
Review fit and swap sizes as needed.
Store upcoming sizes in labeled bins
Gifts and hand-me-downs often arrive in larger sizes. Sort them into clear bins by size range and label each one. Keep the next size up within easy reach and future sizes higher up.
Wash clothes before storing, and keep bins in an interior closet, away from heat and dust. Las Vegas garages are too hot for fabric storage, especially anything with elastic or prints.

Set up an outgrown bin
An outgrown bin in the closet makes it easy to drop clothes as they stop fitting. When it fills, decide what to save for a future child, pass on or donate.
Donation options in the valley include Goodwill of Southern Nevada and Opportunity Village. Keep only the most special pieces as keepsakes.
- Save: for a future child, labeled by size and season
- Pass on: to friends or family
- Donate: clean, gently used clothes
- Keepsake: a few special pieces in a memory box
Plan for the Las Vegas climate
Valley summers are long and hot, and winters are mild, so you will need more lightweight pieces than heavy ones. Store the few cold-weather items, like a warm jacket and footed sleepers, in one bin.
When storing clothes for a future child, label bins by both size and season so you can pull the right ones at the right time. Our nursery organization service can help set this up.
